Start Your Day Right, Not Hungover

If you’ve listened to a few episodes of our podcast, you’ll notice a theme. Starting your day right is a huge part of recovery.

The alarm goes off, you get up (or you hit snooze a couple times) and you realize you might not have slept as good as you thought. Maybe your dog slept on your feet the entire night, or your partner wouldn’t quit snoring no matter how many times you gave them a shove. Whatever the case may be, it’s important to start your day right. If you’re in the sober community then you’ve already got a major leg up because, duh, no hangover. However, no hangover doesn’t mean you’re hydrated, vitamin fueled and collagen packed. Here are some healthy, productive and yummy ways to get that boost you need and secure a good mood for the rest of the day.

8 greens

HOW TO USE:

Drop in 8OZ. GLASS OF WATER

We’re not tricking you on this one. It really is as simple as poppin’ one of these delightfully yummy tabs into an 8 oz. glass of water. If you want to elevate it even further, we have you covered. Take our afternoon delight drink for a spin and finish this off with a juice floater on top.

According to the brand’s website, “8Greens Effervescent Tablet is made from 8 real greens; spinach, kale, aloe vera, wheatgrass, blue green algae, barley grass, chlorella and spirulina, with only 15 calories and a lemon-lime taste. One tablet contains as much vitamin C as 6 oranges, vitamin B6 as 6 cups of spinach, vitamin B5 as 15 cups of broccoli, vitamin B12 and 7 cups of milk and zinc as 3 cups of peas.”

THREE CUPS OF PEAS?! If you’re like us you probably haven’t had peas since November, and trust us this is a much better alternative.

Goop Glow Powder

HOW TO USE:
Mix one packet daily in 8 fl. oz. of water (room temperature is optimal)

Another easy peasy option, although not as much peas.

According to the website “Drink your way to glowing skin with a healthy dose of skin-supporting ingredients: vitamins C and E, grape-seed proanthocyanidins, and CoQ10, along with the critical carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin. A power shot of antioxidants and nutrients designed to reduce the free radical effects of the sun, pollution, stress, and more, it helps protect against oxidative photodamage, which can lead to signs of premature aging like dullness, uneven tone, fine lines, and loss of firmness.* Drink as part of your healthy morning ritual: It tastes of oranges and lemon verbena and looks a little like a sunrise as you mix it with water. The single-dose packets fit easily in a gym bag and travel effortlessly, so you can get the goop glow just about anywhere.”

Look, we wouldn’t steer you wrong when it comes to a powder drink. This one is delicious, and even better over ice.

Leave it to G.P. to make powder taste divine.. ahh.

We know it’s not easy to take moment to be still first thing in the AM, but it might be just what you need

According to Headspace “In a 2018 study showcasing the morning routines of over 300 successful people, it was shown that one of the most important pieces of their days is an adaptable morning routine. We aren’t always in control of our surroundings or amenities, especially when we travel and have unpredictable schedules. Morning mindfulness meditation is something that can be done anywhere: in bed, sitting in a taxi, on a plane, or while waiting for your breakfast smoothie to blend. It can become the foundation of your day, something you can always rely on to bring you to a sense of calmness, in body and mind.”

We truly back the idea that taking time to go inward is important, specifically in the early stages of recovery. Feelings are new to many of us when we first break- up with booze and guided meditations can help you work through so feelings so you don’t have to sort it out alone.

We also love affirmations. Sometimes you need a little nudge from someone to remind you of your power. Easing into a morning mediation routine by listening to guided affirmations can release the pressure of having to sit and do “nothing”.

Check out the 3 free mediations we love on YouTube. While you’re there, give our podcast a follow!
