8 Sober Celebs Who Ditched Booze & Gained Clarity

From Blake Lively to Tyler, The Creator, Hollywood is no stranger to celebrities who are ditching alcohol to enjoy a more full life by living a sober lifestyle


Here are eight celebrities who you won’t catch with a drink in hand—whether it has been six months or thirty years—and some of their tips for staying sober.

Jack Harlow: After waking up with a few too many dry throats and rethinking his drinking habits on tour, Harlow shared that he quit drinking last year in Rolling Stone’s recent cover story. Kickstarting his music career, Harlow shared that he wants to focus on his goals for his future and for his relationships, apart from alcohol. 


Blake Lively

Blake Lively: When asked why she doesn’t drink alcohol by Allure Magazine, Lively said, “I don’t drink because I don’t like the effects of alcohol, but I like being social.” Her desire to keep people from feeling alienated in social situations due to their sobriety, led to the creation of her very own non-alcoholic premium mixing line, Betty Buzz.


Shania Twain

Shania Twain: Not only has Twain chosen to live a clean lifestyle, but this country music icon refers to her band as the “clean train,” since she requires her band to make mindful substance choices. Twain has often shared about the importance of surrounding yourself with people who are also dedicated to sobriety. You Go Girl!

 Kendrick Lamar:In a 2013 interview with GQ, Lamar shared that he does not drink or do drugs, even releasing the song “Mother I Sober” on his newest album, discussing his sobriety. In the interview with GQ, Lamar opened up about growing up around substance abuse at home. To support people who choose sobriety, Lamar often talks about the importance of advocating for substance-free lives.

Elton John: In July of 2020, John celebrated his 30th year of sobriety, according to Rolling Stone. Throughout the past thirty years, John has been open about his sobriety, and the importance of support during his journey. In a Twitter post on this celebratory day, John shared, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the people who have inspired and supported me along the way.”

Bella Hadid: In January 2022, Hadid revealed in an interview with InStyle that she had been sober for about six months. Like Lively, Hadid co-founded a non-alcoholic beverage brand, Kin Euphorics, featuring social drinks to complement dinner parties and pre-dinner social hours. 


Tyler, The Creator

Tyler, The Creator: In a conversation with Creative All Star Series, Tyler, the Creator discussed that his songs mention drug and alcohol use, but he is largely disinterested in drinking. He said that keeping away from drugs and alcohol helps him stay creative, since he prioritizes having a clear mind. 


Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore: Barrymore has been sober for a little over two years, she revealed in an interview with CBS Mornings. In the interview, Barrymore shared that she chose sobriety after realizing that alcohol “did not serve her.” Since quitting alcohol, Barrymore shared that she has a renewed sense of empowerment.
